Study of Main Traffic Parameters and Bicycle Path Suitability for Electric Vehicles and Bicycles in the City of Ruse

The statistical reports show that the fatal traffic accidents in Bulgaria are three times greater than the leading road safety countries. As such the country is situated in one of the first places in Europe in terms of the number of people killed. Improving the road safety is vital for our country. In the Bulgarian specialized literature, there are no published results of research on the speed of electric vehicles and bicycles, as well as on the suitability of the infrastructure for these vehicles. Speed results can be very useful in the expert investigation of traffic accidents involving electric vehicles and bicycles. This paper presents the results of a study of basic parameters of electric vehicles and bicycles on the bicycle path on “Potsdam” Street in the city of Ruse. Based on the results obtained from the research, the suitability of the bicycle path can be assessed according to various criteria. The findings of this study can provide valuable background information of future research projects.
