Comparative Study of Multiband Horn and Yagi-Uda Antenna For Spectrum Sensing Applications

In this paper, Yagi-Uda and Horn antenna are designed to operate at frequencies ranging from 150 MHz to 400 MHz and simulated using Custom Simulation Technology – Microwave Studio (CST-MWS). To achieve multi-band frequency operation of the antenna, the Yagi-Uda antenna was designed and fabricated in a way that the physical dimensions could be adjusted for different operating frequencies. For the Horn antenna, the method used was to modify the design by adding a ridge at the aperture flare which is commonly known as the Double-Ridged Horn antenna. The antennas were test simulated with feeding point resistance of 50 $\Omega$. The gain which ranges from 8dB to 15dB was achieved, the operating frequency from 150 MHz to 400 MHz was achieved, the VSWR at each operating frequency ranges from 1 to 1.5 and more importantly, the magnitude of back lobe of the radiation pattern is low.
