Conceptual Mechanical Structure Analysis of A 16 T Canted Cosine Theta (CCT) Magnet

A 16 T canted-cosine-theta (CCT) magnet is designed for the pre-study of CEPC-SPPC project next generation Circular Electron Positron Collider-Super Proton-Proton Collider (CEPC-SPPC) project, which is proposed at China. The high field accelerator dipole magnet is a great challenge to the SPPC, a large number of dipole magnets with 20 T magnetic field strength will be required. The successful management of the stress distribution of the CCT magnet coil is very important in the fabricating process and operation status of the magnet. The thickness of the outer support cylinder of the coil has been optimized in order to minimize the cold mass by using FEA software. The maximum stress on the conductor is allowable. The maximum stress of the mandrel is allowable with an 80 mm thick aluminum outer support cylinder. This paper presents the 2D mechanical structure analysis of the 16 T CCT magnet.
