A Study on Improving Transmission Errors of Double Enveloping Worm Gear Reducer through Failure Cases

The double enveloping worm gear reducer has a unique tooth-shaped worm and worm wheel meshing structure. This structure can maximize the meshing of the worm and the worm wheel, thereby ensuring high power transmission efficiency and load transmission performance, and a compact size compared to general worm gear reducers. In this paper, failure cases of high precision double enveloping worm gears were analyzed and failure modes of major components were analyzed. Based on this, a design to improve the failure modes was carried out, and the safety factor was confirmed through structural analysis by applying the derived design value. In addition, a transmission error test was conducted to verify the performance of the high-precision worm gear reducer, and the results conforming to the design were confirmed.
