VitalWatch: Empowering Health with Web-based Vital Sign Monitoring and Alert System using NI MyRIO

The Philippines ranked third lowest in primary education and health competitiveness among ten Southeast Asian countries in 2013-2014, attributed to inadequate healthcare focus in academic institutions. In 2019, the Departments of Education and Health initiated healthcare services for students, particularly those vulnerable or in need of emergency care on school premises. They monitored compliance with the School Sanitation and Health Services of the Code on Sanitation, P.D. 856. First aid kit requirements in faculty rooms posed emergency response delays, prompting researchers to develop solutions like Heart Rate Monitors in gymnasiums. Existing medical records in school clinics often became outdated. Alternatives like thermometers and pulse oximeters proved inconvenient. A more accessible system for monitoring vital signs, including heart rate, temperature, peak expiratory flow, and blood pressure, was necessary.In response, researchers introduced a user-friendly student health monitoring system utilizing NI MyRio, programmed with LABVIEW, accessible online. NI MyRio's versatility includes analog inputs/outputs, digital I/O lines, LEDs, push buttons, an accelerometer, Xilinx FPGA, and a dual-core ARM Cortex-A9 processor.
