Gain Boosting Technique for Flapping Wing Surface Integrated Antenna based on Metasurface

To facilitate the heightened integration of the Micro Aerial Vehicle (MAV) system and bolster the stability of remote communication with the ground, a technique that aims to boost the gain of flapping wing surface integrated antenna by loading metasurface is proposed. The reflective metasurface and the antenna are placed on the upper and lower surface of the wings respectively. Based on the in-phase reflective properties of the metasurface, the effect of reducing the backward radiation and enhancing the forward radiation of the antenna are realized, so that the antenna radiation beam is directly adjusted to improve the gain performance. The results show that the antenna loaded with metasurface operates stably in 5G-n78/n79 and ISM-5.8GHz bands, and has excellent gain improvement effect within the range of wing flapping angles. At the resonant frequency, there is a maximum increase of 5.28dB in gain. The directivity of the antenna varies with the change of angles between the metasurface and the antenna, providing an effective beam scanning capability.
