Abstract:

Voice over IP (VoIP) networks have become popular communication solutions, offering cost-effective and versatile voice communication services over packet-switched networks. Evaluating the performance of VoIP networks is vital to ensure high-quality voice transmission and user satisfaction. This paper presents a simulation-based study that aims to assess the performance of VoIP networks and analyze key metrics using the NS-2 simulation framework. We employ a comprehensive simulation methodology, considering network scalability, standard protocols, and recent advancements in VoIP technology. Our simulation experiments encompass various network configurations, traffic patterns, and quality of service (QoS) parameters. Performance metrics such as packet loss, delay, and jitter are studied to estimate the impact of network parameters on communication. The results provide insights into the behavior of VoIP networks and enable informed decision-making for network design and optimization. The conclusions of this study add to the extensive available information on VoIP performance evaluation and serve as a foundation for further research in this domain.
