Partial Discharge Characteristics of Metallized Film for Metallized Film Capacitors

Based on the actual structure of metallized film capacitors, this paper explores the effects of different defect types on the partial discharge characteristics of metallized films and the differences in the partial discharge characteristics are compared with those of polypropylene film. It is found that the phase distribution of partial discharge inside the metallized film is at the positive and negative half-week amplitude of the voltage. The presence of defects decreases the PDIV (Partial discharge Inception Voltage) of the specimen, which makes the discharge more likely to occur, but has no significant effect on the breakdown voltage. The phenomenon of self-healing of the metallized film is observed, and the metal coating is partially evaporated due to partial discharge and self-healing.
