Ultra-Compact Silicon-on-Chip Photonic Devices Based on Inverse Design

Our work designed two kinds of silicon optical devices based on inverse design, one is an ultra-compact taper with a length of only 5 µm, which has a wide operating frequency band from 1500 nm to 1600 nm, and the average insertion loss is about -2 dB. Another is an O-band polarization-independent wavelength division Multiplexing (WDM) device with an insertion loss of -3 db.
