Electrical and Thermal Properties of Polypropylene Modified by Polydopamine for HVDC Cable

In this paper, a method of modifying polypropylene (PP) with polydopamine (PDA) was proposed to improve the electrical and thermal properties of PP for HVDC cable insulation. The morphology, crystallization behavior, DC breakdown strength and thermal property were characterized by polarized optical microscopy (POM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), DC breakdown test and thermogravimetric analysis (TG). The addition of PDA can induce β-form crystals of PP. Compared with the sample of neat PP, the DC breakdown strength and thermal stability were improved after modified with PDA.
