Design and Testing of Plate Heat Exchanger for a High Temperature Superconducting Motor with Oil-cooling Air-core Stator

This paper designs an integrated oil-water cooling system for cooling the air-core stator of high temperature superconducting (HTS) motors, in which the crucial cooling component uses a brazed plate heat exchanger (BPHE). To verify whether the BPHE meets the heat transfer requirements under rated conditions, a test platform is built to verify its heat transfer performance. First, the heat transferred is calculated and the BPHE sample is selected to be tested accordingly. Second, the test system of the plate heat exchanger is built to catheterize the heat transfer performance of the BPHE. Last, the performance testing results of the BPHE show that the heat transfer coefficient obtained by the test is 891 W/(m².K) and meets the heat transfer requirements of the HTS motor.
