THE ZVS‐PWM FULL‐BRIDGE CONVERTER

The full‐bridge converter topology can be operated with basic PWM and phase‐shift PWM. This chapter briefly reviews the operation of the converter with basic PWM and phase‐shift PWM. It focuses on the operation of a DC–DC full‐bridge PWM converter with phase‐shift PWM and on some of issues. The chapter presents a discussion of the impact that using wide bandgap devices instead of traditional silicon devices has on design of the converter. A DC–DC full‐bridge converter operated with phase‐shift PWM is commonly referred to as ZVS‐PWM full‐bridge converter, even though the actual topology is the same as that when it is operated with regular PWM control. The secondary diodes of a ZVS‐PWM‐FB converter, regardless of whether a center‐tapped or a full‐bridge diode implementation is used, are prone to voltage ringing.
