The Design and Development of a Multifunctional Measuring System for Liquid Level and Temperature

In this study, a simple, economical method has been presented for measuring the liquid level of conductive liquid based on the concept of electrode polarization impedance (EPI). The measuring system consists of four metallic electrodes. As metallic electrodes came into contact with fluid, the polarization impedance developed. It varies with fluid-level variation and is used to determine the fluid level in the tank. This article describes a method for measuring the level of liquid and temperature simultaneously utilizing electrode polarization-based level sensor and artificial neural network (ANN). The response of an EPI-based level sensor has been studied in order to create a predictor for the liquid’s temperature. An ANN is utilized to create a nonparameter soft sensor to determine the relationship between the outputs of the sensor to fluid temperature variations. The experimental results illustrate that the proposed sensor effectively follows the theoretical one. The proposed measuring system successfully measures the level of liquid and temperature. The developed ANN model can predict the temperature with a minor error, around 0.73%.
