Analysis of Flexible Dual-Band Microstrip Patch Antenna for Wearable Applications

This paper presents the low profile flexible microstrip patch antenna. The proposed antenna is designed on 1 mm jean substrate to resonate in the industrial, scientific, and medical (ISM) band at frequency of 2.45 GHz and 5.8 GHz. The proposed antenna has low profile and stable radiation pattern. The antenna performance is examined by bending the proposed antenna with different radius in x-axis and y-axis. The influences of bending the antenna on the reflection coefficient, operating frequency, radiation pattern and gain are analyzed by simulation. The simulated results show that the antenna can be bent that it can operate at desired frequency. In addition, the performance of the proposed antenna is also studied when it is placed on the human body. The frequency band, radiation pattern, and gain are slightly changed as compared with the antenna in free space.
