The Impact of the COVID-19 Pandemic on Economy and Electricity Consumption in Thailand

This work describes the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on economy and electricity consumption in Thailand during 2020-2021. The economic indicators are gross domestic product, producer price index, and consumer price index. The electricity indicators are energy consumption, peak demand, load factor, and on-peak energy ratio. In addition, carbon dioxide emissions from electricity sector are also observed. The datasets are collected on a monthly/quarterly basis in accordance with the four waves of outbreaks in Thailand. The impact is assessed by comparing with historical data in 2017-2019. It is found that the first and second waves have significantly negative impact, while the impact of the third and fourth waves is less noticeable. In all four waves, there is a substantial variation in hourly profile of electricity consumption, which can be seen from load factor and on-peak energy ratio.
