Application of IEC 60870 and 61850 Standards in Energy Storage Systems

The issues of standardization of battery storage systems for electricity (BESS) are considered in this paper. An architecture based on the use of metadata for the specification of Modbus equipment interfaces, markup of the graphical interface of user applications and mapping of graphical interface elements to equipment registers is described. The software architecture of the monitoring and control system (MCS) is described, which allows saving streaming data and recording changes in the state of BESS equipment by polling Modbus registers. The received data is transmitted to the server components of the IEC 60870, IEC 61850 protocols. The coordination of the logical metadata model for IEC 60870 consists in the formal conversion of the equipment Modbus register numbers into the register numbers of the conformed IEC 104 standard. The physical model of the equipment interfaces is reproduced on the client side. The metadata logical model negotiation for IEC 61850 is based on the formal generation of a device configuration description (CID) in the IEC 61850 standard from the metamodel data. For metamodel elements used as sources of streaming data and events, composite attribute names are generated for the internal MMS protocol. In the process of polling the BESS MCS server for Modbus equipment registers, it searches for nodes in the structure of the information model of the IEC 61850 server and updates the attribute values stored in them. Test results are given. The issues of creating BESS equipment profiles are discussed.
