Electrical Breakdown Simulation for Microwave Power Amplifier

Microwave power amplifiers are widely used in the field of information communication technology, electrical breakdown due to large electrical intensity is one of the bottlenecks limiting gain of the amplifier. This Paper presents a simulation method for calculating the electric breakdown threshold of microwave power devices of arbitrary structure design through a co-simulation of COMSOL electrostatic module and plasma module, the characteristics of breakdown threshold of self-sustaining discharge and streamer discharge under different pressure are studied, and the influence of different structure design on the breakdown voltage is compare. The research provides a powerful tool for optimizing the power amplifier structure at early designing stage.
