Radial Force Harmonics and Acoustic Noise Reduction of a Vector-Controlled SRM by Superimposed Sixth Harmonic Currents

This paper focuses on reducing acoustic noise by improving radial force harmonics in switched reluctance motors (SRMs). Acoustic noise reduction is one of the key issues in SRM. The main cause of acoustic noise is the 6th, 12th and 18th order harmonic component of the radial electromagnetic force acting on the motor. To solve this problem, in this paper, appropriate dq-axis sixth harmonic current are superimpose on the vector-controlled SRM. As a result, it is shown that the 6th, 12th and 18th harmonic component of the radial force can be greatly reduced and acoustic noise can be reduced simply by performing a simple theoretical formula and analysis.
