Topology Design and Performance Analysis of a New Dual-PM Excited Permanent Magnet Arc Motor

The article presents a new dual-permanent magnet (DPM) excited permanent magnet arc motor (DPMPMAM). The proposed DPM-PMAM combines the advantages of the rotor permanent magnet (RPM) excited permanent magnet arc motor (RPM-PMAM) and the stator permanent magnet (SPM) excited permanent magnet arc motor (SPMPMAM). Firstly, motor topology and operation principle of the proposed DPM-PMAM are recommended. Then, the design considerations of the combinations of the stator slot/rotor pole are carried out, and with the purpose of acquiring the optimal motor performance of the proposed DPM-PMAM, its critical structural parameters are analyzed. On this basis, the electromagnetic properties of the proposed DPM-PMAM are assessed and compared with another DPM-PMAM with middle SPM excitations (DPM-MPMAM), the RPM-PMAM, and the SPM-PMAM, respectively. Finally, the viability of the presented motor and the accuracy of the finite element analysis are verified by the comparison results.
