Design and Research of a Linear Actuator for Electric Vehicle Active Suspension

To address the issue of lacking active control in existing traditional suspension systems in electric vehicles (EV), this paper investigates a tubular permanent-magnet actuator (TPMA) for electromagnetic active suspension application. To fully utilize the eddy current effect for producing big damping force, a passive damping ring is added to the slot to increase the eddy current damping force. After determining the actuator’s structural parameters, a 2D finite element model is established to analyze the actuator’s performance. The results show that the actuator can provide 1079N of active thrust force and 3677N of damping force, which can meet the performance requirements of active suspension.
