A Velocity Contorl Strategy for Dual-Modular Permanent Magnet Linear Synchronous Motor with Low-Resolusion Hall Sensors

For long-distance dual-modular permanent magnet linear synchronous motors (DMPMLSMs), traditional position detection methods are extremely expensive, while sensorless control has low reliability and is difficult to operate at full velocity range. To address the issue, this article creatively proposes a very low-cost control strategy that can operate in the full velocity domain, which utilizes the sensorless algorithm to improve the estimation performance of low-resolution Hall sensors. Two sets of Hall sensors separated by electrically 120° are installed, and an algorithm for determining the effective Hall signal group is designed. The average velocity method (AVM) based on Taylor expansion is performed and a Kalman filter (KF) is designed to achieve the combination of the dual sliding mode model reference adaptive system (DSM-MRAS) and AVM. The validity and effectiveness of the proposed strategy have been verified by simulation and experimental results on a laboratory DMPMLSM platform under different operating conditions.
