Electrolytic Capacitorless Doubly Salient Electromagnetic Generator System with Power Compensation Circuit

The doubly salient electromagnetic generator (DSEG) power generation system often equipped with large electrolytic capacitors to keep the output voltage constant. However, the electrolytic capacitors have problems such as high equivalent series resistance and short service life, which will increase system loss and affect reliability. In this paper, an electrolytic capacitorless power generation system and its corresponding control strategy are proposed for DSEG. By paralleling a power compensation circuit at the output of DSEG power generation system, using film capacitors instead of electrolytic capacitors, it is possible to reduce the volume of the system, as well as enhance its reliability. The proposed control strategy adjusts the duty cycle of the switches in the power compensation circuit in real-time by sampling the output voltage of the DSEG generation system, thereby suppressing the output voltage ripple.
