On-Shore Battery-Storage Strong-Grid-Forming Wind Generator Systems

With the decrease in grid strength due to the increase in inverter-based renewable energy systems, this paper considers alternative strong-grid-forming (SGF) systems, with specific focus on wind energy. For strong grid forming, battery storage plays an inevitable role. In this paper, two systems are proposed and evaluated on a 5-MW power level, namely a ground-mounted and a top-tower-mounted SGF system. The ground-mounted system is found to have the overall advantage.
