Speed Enhancement of Vector-Controlled Axial Gap Type Single-Drive Bearingless Reluctance Motor by Adjustment of Rotor Suspension Position

An axial gap type single-drive bearingless reluctance motor (AxG-SDBelRM) is one of the single-drive bearingless motor which has no permanent magnet in the motor part, i.e., suitable for high-speed applications. However, the previously designed AxG-SDBelRM focused only on torque and current density, without considering the rated rotational speed. In this paper, the maximum rotational speed is investigated by a numerical calculation. Then, a control method of rotor suspension position adjustment is proposed for increasing the maximum rotational speed.
