A PV-Utility Integrated Cascaded Interleaved Configuration-Based IPT Charging System for Residential V2G and G2V Applications of EV

The work in this article proposes a cascaded interleaved (CI) configuration that integrates the photovoltaic (PV) and utility sources for the charging of electric vehicles (EVs) storage employing inductive power transfer (IPT) technology in both grid to vehicle (G2V) and vehicle to grid (V2G) operating conditions. To achieve this objective a cascaded interleaved high-frequency (CIHF) converter is proposed on the transmitter side to integrate PV source and utility dc-link while simultaneously supplying/receiving power from the IPT link. On the receiving side battery interleaved high-frequency (BIHF) converter is proposed to boost the dc-bus voltage needed for the electric drive and charge/discharge operation of the storage when needed. This article presents the operation and analysis of both converters to achieve the above-mentioned objectives. Furthermore, a control algorithm to manage the power among various source and loads in both the G2V and V2G modes are also presented in this article. The other features of the proposed system are minimum component count, less complexity in control, and inherent voltage boosting due to the cascade connection of utility dc-link and PV voltages. Finally, the proposed system performance is validated through experimental results using a hardware setup built in the laboratory.
