Identifying Hybrid Renewable Energy Power Management and Speed Control on Catamaran Ship

Sea equipment is a means of sea transportation used for shipping services of goods and people, the use of machines with fossil energy on ship engines is still widely used, while the supply of fossil energy every year will be running low, so the use of renewable energy such as solar energy and wind energy are recommended. In this study, to identify the performance of thrust utilization management of solar and wind energy on catamaran vessels along with speed control. the Drakkar sail is the main device to convert wind power energy to thrust on ships. In addition, a Brushless Direct Current (BLDC) motor equipped with a propeller with an energy source obtained from the battery is used. The battery is charged from a set of Photovoltaic (PV). The width (delta high) of the sail is controlled by PID to reach an appropriate ship speed as speed setting. Kinetic wind energy, Drakkar sail; and solar energy, electric can be manage to propel the ships. The response time required to close the sail for 3 seconds then the BLDC propeller will turn on, and conversely the time required to turn off the BLDC Propeller and open the sail requires 4 seconds. From the experimental data shows that the speed of ships with sails can be variated with errors 0.16 m/s. In addition, experiments also show that the speed of ships with electrical energy can be variated with an error of 0.07 m/s without payload.
