Understanding Windows Server 2022

Windows Server 2022 is built off of the solid foundation of Windows Server 2016, but Microsoft has stated that Windows Server 2022 is “The cloud‐ready operating system.” This means that many of the features of Windows Server 2022 are built and evolve around cloud‐based software and networking. This chapter details some of the features of Windows Server 2022. Microsoft offers the following four versions of Windows Server 2022: Windows Server 2022 Datacenter, Windows Server 2022 Standard, Windows Server 2022 Datacenter: Azure Edition, and Windows Server 2022 Essentials. There are three ways to install Windows Server 2022: Windows Server 2022 (Desktop Experience); Windows Server 2022 Server Core; and Windows Server 2022 Nano Server. Microsoft always decides to remove or retire features or services that are no longer needed. The chapter details some of the Features and Services that were replaced starting with Windows Server 2022.
