Estimation of variations in progesterone in a woman across the menstrual cycle

A brain is an organ that can detect shifts in hormone levels. An average woman during a menstrual cycle has fluctuations in some hormones, such as estradiol and progesterone. However it remains poorly understood whether day-to-day fluctuations in this hormones shape human brain dynamics. In these work two series of functional magnetic resonance imaging in resting state (rsfMRI) from a woman during a menstrual cycle were used. The analysis of these series starting from time domain using visibility algorithm to converted these in graphs. The hypothesis is that structure of networks changes with the level of progesterone, and also the geometry of network is affected by the oral contraceptive consume. A healthy woman during a menstrual cycle has fluctuations in some hormones such as estradiol and progesterone; these fluctuations are observable through activation default mode network in functional connectivity maps and are observables through visibility graphs in different stereotaxic cuts in different neuroanatomical planes.
