Computer-Aided Design Application in Determining Minimum Discomfort Glare

In this paper, a computational model is proposed by integrating spatial information and the hourly Daylight Glare Probability data through a couple of computer-aided design software to determine minimum discomfort glare for responsive facades. The proposed model is evaluated by parametrically simulating an office with a responsive facade and generating a year of the hourly Daylight Glare Probability data for both horizontal and vertical facade configurations and for five facade locations/climate zones. Then, the Brute-force search algorithm is used to determine the hourly optimum angle of the facade configuration. The computational results show that the proposed optimization model can produce the Daylight Glare Probability values within acceptable range (<0.35) for various facade configurations, facade orientations, and facade locations/climate zones.
