Abstract:

This paper presents the design of an electronic watch using seven segment display. It consists of three main modules: (1) micro-controller; (2) PLD (programmable logic design); and (3) seven segments. Software has been written for the microcontroller to generate a 1 Hz clock signal. MAX+plus-II software of Altera Company has been used to design the logic circuit for the watch. The clock signal from the microcontroller will be fed to drive the logic circuit. The logic circuit will drive the seven segments. The proposed watch is electrically operated and the user does not need to change a battery. The brightness of the seven-segments makes it easily visible. The watch can be installed on the wall or table etc.
