Evaluation of Renewable Energy Carrying Capacity of Power Grid Considering Risk Constraints of Frequency Stable Operation

The increasing integration of renewable energy sources in power systems has led to the need for a scientific assessment of the power system's capacity to accommodate new energy sources. This paper proposes an approach to assess the carrying capacity of renewable energy while considering the risk constraints of frequency stability operation. The approach first derives frequency constraints based on the swing equation, including minimum point constraints and quasi-steady-state frequency constraints. Then, a renewable carrying capacity assessment model is constructed. The effectiveness of the proposed approach is demonstrated using the IEEE 39-bus system, and the evaluation results are verified using the power system frequency response model. The results show that the proposed approach can effectively assess the renewable energy carrying capacity of the power grid.
