Risk Analysis of Electricity Balance in New Power System: A Case Study of Yunnan in China

At the 75th United Nations General Assembly, the general secretary Xi made a commitment to strive to reach the peak of carbon dioxide emissions by 2030 and achieve carbon neutrality by 2060. In order to fulfill this commitment, it is an important way to fully utilize and vigorously develop wind, solar, water and other renewable energy resources. It is an important means to achieve carbon emission reduction by vigorously developing new energy sources such as wind and solar energy. The operation of new power systems mainly based on wind and solar new energy sources faces many new challenges. Yunnan Province is rich in wind and solar power resources and enjoys favorable conditions for development. With the rapid increase of installed capacity in recent years, the randomness, intermittency and reverse peak regulation characteristics of new energy have increasingly prominent influences on the system regulation and operation. It also adds uncertainty to the operation of the grid. This article relies on the actual engineering of Yunnan Power Grid and focuses on the operational requirements of the high proportion clean energy power system. We do research on the balance of electricity and operational risks under the high penetration rate of new energy such as wind and solar. By analyzing the random generation characteristics of wind and solar new energy and simulating the new energy power generation scene, we optimize the operation of other power sources such as hydropower and analyze the operational risks of power shortage. Finally, reasonable suggestions are proposed based on the analysis results.
