Optimizing Next-Hop Selection in AODV-based VANETs: An Approach Based on Distance and Neighbor Node Evaluation

In rapidly changing network topologies, selecting optimal transmission links between vehicles (nodes) is crucial for maintaining continuous connectivity. We modified the original Ad hoc On-Demand Distance Vector (AODV) protocol to improve the route selection process by incorporating parameters such as signal strength and neighboring node density. This modification involves integrating the AODV protocol with the prediction node trend (AODV-PNT) approach, which enhances the selection mechanism to improve the packet delivery ratio (PDR), minimize link failures, and reduce routing overhead in dynamic topologies. To further enhance the effectiveness of the AODV-PNT protocol, we consider the calculation of time-weighted routing (TWR) and propose incorporating additional factors. The proposed modifications facilitate reliable and efficient communication in dynamic environments.
