A Quantitative Evaluation of the Impact of Remotely Controlled Circuit Breakers on the Quality of Service of Low Voltage Network

This paper aims to offer an overview of the positive impact of remotely controlled Low Voltage (LV) circuit breakers on the quality-of-service indicators for the main Italian Distribution System Operator, “e-distribuzione”, serving over 31 million customers. The analysis is enriched considering the LV circuit breaker to be of the unipolar type which, in the case of a single phase-to-ground fault, opens only the faulty phase and keeps in operation the other two. The analysis is carried out based on the number, type, and duration of the service interruptions originated on LV network recorded in 2021 and 2022 by e-distribuzione.
