Experimental Measurements on the Interferential Effects Produced by IMT Signals Operating in UHF Band on DVB-T2 Signals in MATV Systems

With the recent modification of the regulatory framework in the 470-690 MHz band in Europe, established during the WRC-12, a transition process began which definitively concluded at the end of June 2022, with the release of part of the band used by television operators in favor of mobile operators for the provision of 5G services. This new operating scenario in the UHF band has paved the way for carrying out new studies to evaluate the impact on the current MATV (Master Antenna TV) reception systems, also considering that the majority of them are not suitable yet for filtering the signals generated by new 5G radio base stations and therefore are subject to interference due to the intermodulation products generated by the broadband amplifiers installed in TV receiving systems. The present study shows preliminary results of a campaign of experimental measurements aimed at evaluating the response of the MATV system in the simultaneous presence of television and IMT signals in the considered UHF band, using typical broadband amplifiers. The final goal of the research work is to provide an interference model aimed to estimate TV reception areas where it is expected mobile signals could affect the integrity of the TV service received by MATV systems.
