Application of Biotechnology and Digitalization in Mineral Extraction

The paper considers approaches to the application of bioleaching processes in the mining industry for the extraction of metals from mineral ores, the possibility of using biotechnologies in hydrometallurgy. The types of environmental damage caused by traditional methods of metal mining and the advantages of using biogeotechnologies that exclude such environmental pollution are shown. The types of bacteria in the bioleaching of various metals are described, examples of the use of biotechnologies at Russian mining enterprises are given. The efficiency of metal bioleaching in silicate and sulfide minerals is evaluated in comparison with traditional metal mining technologies. This paper provides information about the Pitram software Micromine Company, which allows covering and automating the entire complex of works on the extraction of metals, created to control and manage the technological processes of extracting metals from ore, regardless of the methods of extraction, types of enriched raw materials and other production features. The paper aims to study the application of information biotechnologies for mining. The objectives of the work are to study environmentally friendly methods of extracting metals using bioleaching, to describe the negative impact of mining on the environment, the use of information technology in the extraction of minerals and the assessment of the environmental effect when introducing biotechnologies.
