Effects of Aluminum Oxide and Polydimethylsiloxane on HIF1A Expression in the Brains of db/db Mice with Genetically Determined Development of Obesity and Type II Diabetes Mellitus

In this study we explored the used of sorbents as possible therapeutic agents. We used a complex of aluminum oxide with polydimethylsiloxane, as a treatment substance for II diabetes and its associated complications. Sorbents can remove toxins from the bloodstream, potentially reducing inflammation and oxidative stress. Both of these factors contribute to impaired brain function in type II diabetes. We researched db/db mice and demonstrated that exposure to the sorbent complex led to a reduction in Virchow-Robin spaces in the brain regions under investigation. The study's findings suggest that administering the aluminum oxide with polydimethylsiloxane complex to db/db mice had an anti-hypoxic effect. As a result, expression of the HIF1A marker in the brain cells of the “Sorbent” group to a level comparable to the ”Placebo” group, indicating a normalizing effect. In contrast, in db/db mice not receiving the sorbent (group ”Placebo”), there was a significant increase in the expression of the HIF1A receptor in brain cells compared to the control group. Therefore, stress factors associated with administration may affect the expression of HIF1A. The study of sorbents is thus a prospective area for understanding type II diabetes and related brains function damage. The use of sorbents in treatment has the potential to reduce the adverse effects of inflammation, oxidative stress and hypoxic effects that are invariable companions of type II diabetes. In the future, the use of sobrbents in clinical trials may be considered. However, further studies are required to fully understand the underlying mechanisms of sorbents effect.
