Design of an Isolated Wind-Solar Hybrid System, Applied to an Agricultural Production Unit in the Municipality of Tlalixcoyan, Veracruz

The energy sector is intricately linked to the environment. Due to the intensive use of natural resources and the repercussions derived from the processes of production, transportation, and use of fossil fuels. The above, to meet current energy needs and provide electricity to the national territory. However, in Mexico, 2 million inhabitants in rural areas still lack electricity supply. Veracruz is among the states classified as energy poor. Therefore, this paper describes an alternative to supply electricity to an agricultural production unit, taking advantage of the solar and wind resources of the region in a hybrid isolated HRES configuration. The HOMER Pro software is the simulation tool used for the optimization of components in the configuration selected for this case study.
