Development of a Water Monitoring System Prototype

Water monitoring plays a crucial role in safeguarding the environment and human health. This work presents the development of an innovative water monitoring system prototype designed for measuring dissolved oxygen, electrical conductivity, salinity, total dissolved solids, hydrogen potential, temperature, and turbidity. Physically, the prototype consists in a plastic hollow body buoy floating on a body of water. The implementation of the device is contemplated in a lotic system belonging to the Atoyac River in Puebla, Mexico, which is not monitored by the government, and the community that uses it has declared that it is being contaminated. The proposed system is composed by low-cost sensors and LoRa (Long Range) communication technology to enable real-time data collection, geolocation, and analysis, providing an efficient and low-cost solution. The main differences of this system with other commercial devices are its manufacturing cost, its easy implementation, makes use of sustainable energy, and its way of communication.
