Effect of pelleting on the mechanical behavior of ring die based on DEM-MBD coupling method

Ring die pelleting is a manufacturing process for producing pellets. However, the ring die pellet mill typically requires high power consumption and is prone to ring die wear and damage. To investigate the influence of the pelleting process on the mechanical behavior of the ring die, a coupled model of the roller-powder-ring die was established based on the discrete element method and multi-body dynamics. The model was verified through torque tests of the pellet mill. The model is used to conduct co-simulation under different linear velocities of the ring die to study the influence of the linear velocity and connection methods of the ring die on the mechanical behavior of the ring die. The results showed that the hoop connection is better the linear velocity was positively correlated with the stress and strain of the ring die. With the goal of low energy consumption, low loss of the ring die, and production efficiency, 10 m/s is the optimal linear velocity of the ring die.
