Abstract:
The dissemination of small distributed generation systems by photovoltaic source (DGPV) has caused daytime overvoltages in low-voltage distribution systems. Battery energy storage systems (BESS), when operating in parallel with DGPV, may not only expand the energy benefits brought about by these systems but also mitigate the undesired effects associated with the operation of such intermittent energy sources. The incorporation of BESS on low-voltage networks can solve not only the problems of overvoltage produced through DGPV operation but also the undervoltage observed in periods of greater demand on the system, which normally occur at the beginning of the evening, when the DGPVs are inoperative. Another benefit arising from the incorporation of BESS is the reduction in the loading of distribution transformers, increasing the available capacity of such systems. This work presents an analysis of the different approaches for dispatching BESS, while aiming at improving the performance of low-voltage distribution grids.
