Parallel Computing-Based PMU Measurements Big Data Query Tool to Analyze the Colombian Power System Dynamic Performance

This paper presents a parallel computing-based methodology for massive querying of large data sets to allow the analysis of power system dynamics. The proposed methodology integrates the query of the variables requested by the user, such as voltage and current in magnitude and angle, frequency, and rate of change of frequency; additionally, through the tool, the calculations of active and reactive powers are performed using the voltage and current phasors of equipment connected to the network. The methodology was implemented in the data query of a set of PMU s installed in the Colombian power system substations. Since a significate time reduction of 90.6 % was obtained for a query of 207 million data, where the query time decreased from 10.47 minutes to 59 seconds, it is possible to prove the importance of integrating parallel computing techniques for reducing the query times of large volumes of data.
