An improved car-following model based on the basic traffic unit from the perspective of CPS

From a practical point of view, drivers not only pay attention to the behavior of preceding and rear vehicles while driving, but also to the behavior of vehicles in adjacent lanes. However, most microscopic traffic models do not accurately portray the multidimensional vehicle-to-vehicle relationship. In this paper, a new car-following model is proposed by considering information of surrounding multiple vehicles from the perspective of cyber-physical systems (CPS). In particular, the factors influencing car-following behavior are analyzed using actual data. Then, the basic traffic unit affecting the longitudinal speed of the target vehicle is proposed, which portrays the effect of the six surrounding vehicles on the central vehicle. Finally, the experimental results show that the proposed model can better reproduce the traffic phenomenon of the actual transportation systems.
