Full cycle personnel simulation from entry to evacuation of multi-story building : An office building case Study

Multi-story buildings still occupy a large proportion in urban buildings. It is of great significance to evaluate the layout and internal transportation design for these buildings. A full cycle personnel movement simulation from entering to escaping the multi-story building is studied to excavate the shortcomings of the building layout or interior traffic design. In order to realistically simulate building layout and personnel movement, in this paper, multi-agent modeling and simulation method is adopted. Taking a multi-story office building as a typical case, the building structure and personnel models are built, and the simulation of full-cycle workflows from personnel entering the building to evacuation escaping the building are designed. Through simulation, the density of people distribution at each movement stage and the quantitative evacuation time are obtained. Suggestions based simulation to improve the building design of layout and optimize the transportation in building are given. The result shows that the proposed modeling and simulation method is effective for the study of internal transport movement, evacuation time prediction, and building design considering the safety of personnel in practical significance. It can also be used for guiding reconstruction of buildings later.
