Towards the Digital Twin Based Tool Condition Monitoring System for Micro Milling Application: A Review

This paper reviews the developments of tool condition monitoring (TCM) systems in the domain of micro-milling applications. The elaboration of TCM taxonomy is focused on the three essential components, i.e., approach, sensor type, and wear modelling. Further, the digital twin-based TCM developments are also presented. The review shows that the digital twin-based TCM adaptation still needs to be improved despite its potential benefits. The physics-based approach of TCM can be explored more in the digital twin development as the digital model.
