Smart Grid Resilience to Cyber-Physical Threats

Nowadays fields of science and technology are constantly developing, and this improvement is clearly visible in the field of energy. The electric power system is one of the most important infrastructures that directly impact our daily lives in today’s society. Nearly every aspect of modern life, including transportation, food, and health care, is significantly reliant on a steady supply of power. These networks have grown bigger, more expansive, and more interconnected during the past few decades. Its growth has mostly been fueled by a variety of economic, governmental, social, and operational factors. The reliability of energy supplies is increased by integrating many generation units and pooling their power reserves to jointly overcome faults and unexpected outages. Engineers have been collaborating over the past few decades to improve the stability, dependability, and efficiency of power systems due to the significance of the grid. As a result, a variety of technologies are created and incorporated into the power system, causing it to eventually transform into a Cyber-Physical Power System (CPPS). The CPPS is more intelligent than the conventional power system thanks to the integration of new technologies, but it also becomes more complex and introduces a new concern in the form of cyber-physical attacks, which seriously jeopardizes the system’s dependability and safety. This paper is taking into account a renewable CPPS made up of a communication network and a power network. This study is looking into ways to improve the resilience of renewable CPPS to malware attacks.
