Development and Characterization of Cold Atmospheric Pressure Plasma Jet Source for Skin Wound Healing Application

Cold atmospheric pressure plasma jet (C-APPJ) sources are gaining much attention due to extraordinary capability of delivering the reactive oxygen and nitrogen species (RONS) in a wide range of operating parameters. Much more attentions are required for the design and development of C-APPJ sources for their potential applications in wound healing, cancer treatment, etc. by optimizing the operating and geometrical parameters. In the present work development and characterization of different configurations of the C-APPJ sources have been carried out. The effect of the applied voltage, gases and their mixture, and gas flow rates have been analysed in terms of power deposition, plasma plume formation, and different reactive species generation. The effect of the different mixing proportion of $\mathrm{Ar/N}_{2}$ and $\mathrm{Ar/O}_{2}$ has been analysed. The discharge image shows that the plasma is emanate from the nozzle up to the distance of $\sim 3.0 {\mathrm{cm}}$. The investigation has confirmed the formation of low temperature plasma plume and the generation of the metastable, hydroxyl (OH), Nitric oxide (NO), low plume current, required dose of UV radiation, etc. The potential of developed C-APPJ source for wound-healing treatment was assessed through an in-vitro cell culture model, with a range of operating conditions and time intervals.
