A Compact Wideband Meander-Line Based Dipole Antenna for Satellite Communications

In this paper, a miniaturized planar antenna is presented for mobile satellite service (MSS) applications. It employs meander lines to realize miniaturization. And a symmetrical double-layer structure is applied to enhance bandwidth. A prototype with an area of 0.255λ

was designed, fabricated, and measured. The measured results are in reasonable agreement with the simulated ones. A measured 10-dB impedance bandwidth of 18.6% (2.326–2.802 GHz) is implemented. The realized gain within the operating band is mostly around 2 dBi. The presented antenna is a good candidate for MSS applications in the S-band.
