Design of a Millimeter-Wave Shipborne Mid-Pass Reflector Antenna

This paper presents the design of a circularly polarized full duplex reflector antenna for Ka band satellite communications. The antenna takes the form of the classic ring focus reflector antenna. The ellipsoidal secondary reflector is connected to the transmission circular waveguide through a shaped dielectric block, forming a hat feed structure. It has a definite ring focal radius and radiation pattern, which has good impedance matching characteristics. It is adapted to a parabolic reflector with a certain focal diameter ratio, while a high gain pencil beam can be obtained. The simulation results show that the full band voltage standing wave ratio of the antenna is less than 1.5; the downlink gain is greater than 39 dBi, while the aperture utilization rate is better than 60%; similarly, the uplink gain is greater than 40 dBi, while the aperture utilization rate is better than 55%. The side lobe envelope level of the pattern conforms to the international satellite communication standard.
