Exploration of the Relationship Between mAs and kVps In Digital Mammography and their Impact on Glandular Dose: Development of a Predictive Formula

In this study of digital mammography, the relationship between mAs and kVps values and their impact on glandular dose was investigated to develop an accurate predictive formula. Analyzing 114 observations, a moderate positive correlation between kVps and mAs values (r =0.122, p<0.05 was found using Pearson’s correlation coefficient. A significant correlation was also identified between kVps, mAs values, and glandular dose measurements, including Entrance Surface Dose (ESD) and Mean Glandular Dose (MGD). A multiple linear regression model determined that mAs and kVps values together explained 86.04% of the observed variability in glandular dose (R$_{{2}} = 0.86$, p<0.001). The resulting predictive formula indicated that for every unit increase in kVps, the glandular dose increased by 0.193 mGy, while for every unit increase in mAs, the glandular dose increased by 0.0134 mGy. These findings underscore the significance of appropriately adjusting mAs and kVps values in digital mammography to optimize glandular dose. The predictive formula offers a practical tool for estimating glandular dose based on exposure parameters, potentially reducing patient dose without compromising image quality, thus enhancing the safety and effectiveness of digital mammography. Statistical significance was assessed through hypothesis testing, using a significance level of p<0.05 to determine the importance of correlations and the predictive model.
